3 2 8605, sell for OLD 2 The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Monday, November 28, 1983 C7 Price, Ex-TVA Engineer, Dies at 92 John Cary Price, 92, a former TVA civil engineer and former Knoxville resident who worked on the city of Norris in the 1930s, died Saturday in Memphis. In 1939, Price was named head of maintenance of housing and structures; streets and grounds; and water, sewer and electric systems for Norris, a TVA spokesman said. He served as TVA's city manager for the town, the spokesman said. A relative said Price was one of the first TVA employees to draw a paycheck. He helped lay out both the cities of Norris and Kingsport, the relative said.

Earle Draper, head of TVA's division of land, planning and housing, designed Norris and helped design Kingsport. Price, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1914. He moved to Kingsport in 1919 as an engineer with the Kingsport Improvement Co. and helped lay out the city. He joined TVA in 1933.

After serving with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, Price retired from TVA in 1946 and went to Memphis where he opened his own engineering firm. Price leaves his wife, Elsie Kenner Price, Memphis; Mrs. Mary Clay Louis, Rogersville; son, John Cary Price Memphis; seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at New Providence Cemetery in Hawkins County.
