FAQs

A CBSE score of 70 is approximately equivalent to a score of 200 on the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) Step 1. The vast majority of scores range from 45 to 95, and although the scores have the "look and feel" of percent-correct scores, they are not.

Beginning in late February of 2022, the Comprehensive Basic Science Subject Exam (CBSE) score reports will include an equated percent correct score.

A competitive score on the CBSE does not guarantee you a match however, it increases your likelihood of interview requests and matching significantly. A competitive score on the exam changes nearly every year but currently is about a 75. Students take this exam 2-3 times and study for 6+ months.

Readiness for Step 1: Since CBSE and Step 1 cover very similar content, CBSE performance can be used in conjunction with other information to assess readiness for Step 1.

C - this is a grade that rests right in the middle. C is anywhere between 70% and 79% D - this is still a passing grade, and it's between 59% and 69% F - this is a failing grade.

The overall mean CBSE score was 68.9.

The pass marks in each subject of external examination shall be 33%. In case of a subject involving practical work a candidate must obtain 33% marks in theory and 33% marks in practical separately in addition to 33% marks in aggregate in order to qualify in that subject.

It's curved based on how all the med students with similar questions performed. So it's pretty ruthless for the applicants.

Syllabus - The syllabus is quite the same. Mathematics is more difficult in India and language (English) is 100x more difficult in the US. The US syllabus has greater depth.

Traditionally, Step 1 has been thought of as both the most difficult and most important USMLE Step exam. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, this exam is the first in the series, and students taking it will have had less experience with the types of questions that the USMLE asks.

The Comprehensive Basic Science Examination is a general, integrated achievement test covering material typically learned during basic science education, with somewhat more emphasis on second-year courses in medical schools with traditional curricula.
